- Given the heavy Chinese culture influence in the show, it is likely that the town is named after the former anglicization of the province of Guangdong. "Canton" is the origin for the adjective "Cantonese". However, "canton" is also the term for a Swiss political district, essentially states but derived from the French term meaning "corner" or "district".
