Crete-class Carrier

The Crete-class Alliance Carrier was designed as a supplement and possible replacement for the Tohoku-class cruiser. Though much smaller (10 million tons) than the Tohoku, the vessel has longer range, higher speed, and a better cruising duration than its larger contemporary making it the superior vessel for operations on the Rim. It was also less expensive to build in large numbers and, with a crew of only 1200, much cheaper to operate. The Crete's primary purpose was to serve as a support base for small craft.

It carried over 1200 small craft ranging in size from small Alliance Short Range Enforcement Vessels to the larger drop ships and couriers. It had the capability of giving full support not only to its own craft, but to other ships as well and included extensive repair and resupply facilities including, a 4000-ton drydock for serious repair work. However, the carrier was not a stand-up fighter. It was armed with only 200 point-defense weapons and has no missile armament in its standard ordnance load. It depended greatly on its own craft for defense as well as larger escort warships.

Crete-class carrier at the Universe Battle

A small number of these ships have been sold to mega-corps under the name "galleon."

Appearances

A few Cretes took part in the Universe Battle against the Reaver fleet.
