Ita is the sole moon of the planet Whittier of the Kalidasa system.[1] Discovered in 2176, S/2176(Whittier)01 is the smallest body in the Verse to be terraformed, however, the terraforming was not successful. As a result, the moon became a test bed for experimental terraforming techniques, and in 2470 was chosen as a location for a secondary Union of Allied Planets orbital drydock facility.[1]
The crew of the S.S. Walden were returning from a salvage mission here before they discovered Serenity's distress signal.[2]
