Okay, so the Alliance Skiff is mentioned in an unaired episode. That's cool--but in the unaired episode, does it SAY that the Skiff is what Malcolm Reynolds shot down at the Battle of Serenity Valley? The Alliance landed an astounding one hundred or so Alliance Landing Ship for Tanks, "just behind a wave of support fighter aircraft." That not only looks like a Foxbat-class Fighter/Bomber, but the Foxbat-class Fighter/Bomber is a ground attack vessel, with missiles, bombs, and fifteen hundred rounds for an autocannon twice the size of the equivalent of a .50 caliber M2. That sounds exactly like the kind of "support fighter aircraft" that you would need to lay down suppressing fire so you could land a hundred Alliance Landing Ship for Tanks, nicknamed 'A Large Slow Target'. Also, a skiff is an armored hovercraft, not an aircraft. I believe Malcolm Reynolds shot down a Foxbat-class Fighter/Bomber, and it's just a real shame that it crashed into the UA 571-D Ground Sentry AA gun, because if it hadn't, the sky would have shortly been filled with targets. I often wonder, if that AA gun hadn't been destroyed in the crash, if Malcolm Reynolds might have single-handedly changed the outcome of that assault on Serenity Valley. Of course, that was, what, the fifth wave? Eventually, the Alliance was going to win the Battle of Serenity Valley, but that AA gun could have made a huge difference. I would love a response regarding the claim that it was an Alliance skiff and not a Foxbat-class Fighter/Bomber that Malcolm Reynolds shot down, as I do not currently have a copy of the script of that unaired episode.
